TRLMI’s USCG Approved 5-day course includes theory and written examinations towards the issuance of an ORIGINAL qualified rating on your Merchant Mariner Credential as a National Able Seaman (AB). The level of AB that you receive from the USCG is dependent upon several factors of your qualifying sea service including total number of days, size of vessels served on, and waters operated on.
TRLMI’s Able Seaman Course provides training required for candidates desiring to obtain a U.S. Coast Guard endorsement as Able Seaman.
The following subjects will be presented:
Any person successfully completing the Able Seaman course and who presents their Certificate of Training WITHIN ONE YEAR of the completion of training, will satisfy the written examination requirements of 46 CFR 12.405(a) for the “Deck General and Navigation General,” “Deck Safety and Rules of the Road;” AND the “Practical Marlinspike Seamanship Demonstration” requirement of 46 CFR 12.405(c) for any Able Seaman endorsement. This course includes the U.S. Coast Guard Approved practical demonstration of competency in Knot Tying and Splicing.
To obtain a National Able Seaman rating there are U.S. Coast Guard requirements in addition to completing the USCG-Approved examinations. Please refer to the USCG National Maritime Center website for requirements: https://www.dco.uscg.mil/nmc/checklist/
TO RECEIVE THE ENDORSEMENT ON YOUR MMC FOR COMPLETION OF THIS COURSE, THE CERTIFICATE(S) MUST BE PRESENTED TO THE USCG WITHIN ONE YEAR OF THE COURSE COMPLETION DATE.
